Last night none of our dinner was bought from the grocery store ( except the ketchup, my son puts it on everything). My oldest son helps out a farmer who raises pigs so that is where our ham came from because we got a pig from him. We have friends that are potato farmers and we give them eggs for potatoes so hence our potatoes came from there and we froze the corn from this summer. The milk is from our own cows and I even make the butter from that. This doesn't happen all the time but that is what we have started working towards and it just seems nice when it happens. Hopefully our garden will do well this year and we will have lots of canning to do and we grow our own steers for beef and have chickens for our own eggs. Being self sufficient is hard work at times but when you know where your food came from and exactly how it was grown and what went in to it, it is well worth it.
